Registering for the DSST

Registering for the DSST Test can be a great way to earn college credit with what you already know, and save time and money that could be better spent on the courses you really want and need to take.

Before registering for the DSST exam, you should make an appointment with your academic advisor to review which DSST exams might be most beneficial for your college career.

Your advisor will take several things into account:

  • Your major
  • Career goals
  • University Requirements
  • Previous academic record - to determine whether you are a good candidate for DSST testing

Once you receive the all-clear from your advisor, you can register for the DSST exams you need.

DSST registration is fairly straightforward: select a college or university that administers DSST exams, contact the college or university to schedule your test date and pay the test fee and administrative fee (these two fees together come to less than $100), and arrive for the test with the required identification.

The DSST registration test fee includes two score reports: one for you, and one for the college or university you choose when you take the test.

Almost every DSST exam is available via Internet-based testing (with the exception of Principles of Public Speaking), but some locations administer the exams using the more traditional paper and pencil format. If you will be registering for the DSST Internet-based test, you will need to pay by credit card. For paper and pencil DSST tests, you can pay with a certified check, U.S. money order (made payable to Prometric), or by credit card when you register for the DSST test.
