DSST Test Questions

What if you could test out of certain college courses or receive credit for information you learned on your own?

If you could test out of these courses you might be able to graduate faster. DSST is a prior learning assessment program designed to help students test out of courses they already understand and earn college credit at the same time.

Here's how it works:

If you have prior learning in a certain area, say for example Art of the Western World, then you would take a DSST test in that subject and receive college credit for the course, without actually taking the course itself.

DSST exams are intended for students who already understand the subject they are testing. Maybe you learned about that subject through independent study, or through work experience that doesn't count toward your academic record. In any case, you would not want to take DSST exams in subjects you don't understand, but in subjects you understand well.

In this way, DSST allows you to gain college credit for what you already know. There are 38 DSST exams over a wide variety of subjects, in areas including business, humanities, natural science, and social science

DSST exams have several benefits. They cost less per course than traditional three-hour college courses, and don't take up the time in your schedule. Research shows that students who take prior learning assessment tests often graduate faster. And DSST tests are accepted and/or delivered at thousands of learning institutions across the United States.

Each DSST test costs about $80, plus a testing center administrative fee. DSST exams are administered at colleges and universities around the country, through Prometric testing services. Almost all DSST exams are administered electronically. Be sure to check with your college for credit requirements and whether it accepts DSST exams before you register for the DSST test in a particular subject.
